Not an old timer but I've learned a few...

from my father - Tell smart girls they're pretty, tell pretty girls they're smart...

From my grandfather - if the girls got an apple she's probably got a banana...

Never think for a moment you know everything...

the best advice you could ever give a 20 year old!

also of note:

)don't marry have fun till you are 35 at least

)don't ever let gambling interfere with your financial life

)always pay your bills, don't let a 300.00 mistake ruin your life, your credit score is how you will go through the rest of your life being judged (rightly or wrongly)

)if an employer or anyone else ever offers you any free schooling don't think twice about accepting, while you may think you know everything now...you will learn later in life you actually know nothing..

)don't drink and drive

)respect others that deserve respect

)don't ever let a financial windfall affect your decisions about your job(in other words don't quit your job just because you made a few dlls) there are many times in my life where i hit it big (20k or more) only to squander away the money by being lazy and thinking that i will live off of this for awhile...had i instead continued with my drive and desire and invested the money and continued working..i would probably not be sitting here right now as i would have been an easy millionaire many times over..

)don't get no felonies

)if you can buy your own place..never rent...if your parents are cool live there as long as you can..

i am sure i'll think of more later, just opened my first beer...

never buy a new car. Never run the credit cards up. Nevr go in debt for anything but a house.

Start off with a condo as a first buy.

Don't get a credit card unless you pay it off every month. If you can't pay for things with your paycheck you don't need those things.

Just because you are willing to make sacrifices for someone else doesn't mean they will be willing to make sacrifices for you.

Unless you are uncertain of yourself, never work for someone else. They will tell you to do things the wrong way and you will have to do what they say.

Your boss's boss will always take your boss's side no matter how wrong your boss is. Your boss's boss won't try to find the real truth about the situation.

Spend more than a couple weeks in another country. You will find out that there are some things that are done right in your country and you will find some things that are not done right. With this knowledge you can figure out if you should be living there. If you do not spend time in another country you will never know this.

Wish I had started saving earlier for sure.

Here's a piece of gold that everyone should pay attention to:
